All kitchens should have a good knife sharpener, stay tuned for a review on what I think most people should have in their knife drawer. In the meantime, if you don't have one and have a really dull knife what can you do in a pinch. Use what a lot of sharpening systems do...CERAMIC! I can almost guarantee that you have a plate, bowl, cup, or ramekin kicking around in your kitchen that will work surprisingly well.

This is a super easy and very effective method of sharpening a knife if you don't have a sharpener handy.

Ceramic is harder than any knife steel you will encounter

Simply draw the knife towards you across the bottom of your ceramic ware. The ceramic should have a rough bottom, stoneware is what we are looking for. This will actually take a very unserviceable edge to a sharp one in a few strokes.

Don't worry no German Zwilling Henkel's knives were harmed in the filming of this video, this paring knife was made in CHINA...WTH are you thinking @ZWILLING_USA l?!?

This can actually work on some serrated knives depending on how they are constructed.
