Thanksgiving Food Safety

Writer's picture: Ed StoneEd Stone

Turkey, love it or hate it, make sure that you are practicing safe handling of your bird. In the picture below you will see the statement "NEVER FROZEN". Don't believe this for a minute, this particular bird came with some pretty icy spots and hard areas. Fresh, frozen, or backyard butchered always assume your bird will leak as mine did. This is a hard lesson I learned a few years ago when my turkey dripped all over everything underneath it. Yes, that was salmonella soup all over dozens of canned drinks and other prep items. Hours of sanitizing the cans and fridge.

Half sheets are a LIFESAVER

GO and buy more of them they have so many uses beyond #sheetpandinners and baking cookies. Let my mistake be your lesson.

Agreed! I learned the same lesson with a leaky pork butt (hold the puns, Powers!). Bled all over the fridge, what a mess. Fully endorse your suggestion, a moment of thought saves an hour (or more) of cleaning!!
